1000 Words Project: It's said that a picture is worth a thousand words. So, as an Art & Creative Writing class collaboration, we picked a painting from an artist of our choice and wrote a story to go along with it that had to be exactly 1000 words. I found the artist Ryusei Okamoto and picked this piece from his Children of Asia collection. The image on the left is the original, and the one on the right was my copied version. You can read my original story, "Shiori's Magic" below. It's basically about the legend of Shiori, a woman who walks into dreams, and her personal effect on a young girl's life.
Austin Jones Project: Everybody had to choose a person, celebrity, or character and turn them into something else, like an animal. I chose to make Pharrell Williams into an elephant seal - it's a Pharrell-ephant Seal, ha. If I could change anything, it would just be the straightness of the outline because it kind of bugs me. It originally wasn't as cartoony as it is now, but I really like how it turned out in the end.
Atmospheric Perspective: For this, I didn't copy another picture, I was more inspired to make my own. Jeremy said that the closer the mountains, the darker they should be. I'm not sure if I have achieved the three-dimensional look, but I tried! I felt like I needed a bit more color and the trees needed more color, so I added some warmer colors.
Abstract Watercolors: We had to experiment with the watercolor paints. These are ladybugs on top of a leaf in a light rain. I don't even remember why I painted these, but it's pretty abstract. One thing I would change about it though is having a background color. I should have painted it maybe a light blue or something earthy.
En Plein Air: Our class went by the bay to paint our surroundings. I sat next to these really tall palm trees, so it seemed logical to paint them and this is how it came out. I wish I had more colors and I messed up the grass and tree trunk, but I did the best I could with the materials I had. However, I do like the leaves on the trees.
Dystopian Project: This is the book cover for the dystopian story I made. It's about 14 pages and takes place in the future. Basically, a man becomes president of the USA . He seems like a great person, but no one really knows much about him. During his first term, he made a lot of advances in technology and the nation in general, but for his second term, he was a lot more lowkey. He didn't make as many changes as he did before. Some people were getting suspicious, and secrets were getting exposed. You have to read the rest to find out more.
I hand drew it and it's meant to be all white with red in just the flag and the alarm. If I could go back and do it again, I would make the lines cleaner and maybe add some definition to the furniture (shadows, light, etc) to make it look more realistic.
